Wings are fully spread, symmetric, and done in crimson red satin with black vein lines running through each section in directional stitching. The body is a solid black narrow column down the centre. The flowers underneath are simplified poppy shapes, round red blooms on long black stems with oval buds dangling off the sides. Two colours total. Crimson red, and black.

The wing stitching on this one is where the digitising tools digitising really earns its keep. Every panel gets its own stitch direction so the red fills read as dimensional rather than flat, you can actually see the texture when youre holding it at an angle. The stem cluster is all satin columns and outline stitching on black thread, the whole thing reads like a botanical print pulled out of an old garden journal. 4 sizes in the file, going from 3.51 by 2.91 inches up to 7.51 by 6.22 inches. Stitch count range 13,176 to 31,387.

I designed this originally for a garden centre owner who wanted something for her market stall totes. She wanted bold but not cartoon-y, graphic but still botanical. This hit it. She ordered a batch last spring and I recieved a follow-up message six weeks later asking for the same again, customers kept asking where she got the bags. Two colours means faster stitching and a clean look on almost any fabric youre putting it on.

Run it on white, cream, or black cotton for the sharpest results. On white or cream both colours really pop together. On black fabric the crimson sings and the black stitching blends into the ground naturally. Skip mid-tone fabrics like tan or olive green, the black stems disappear. Back it with a tearaway on woven linen or cotton shirting for the smaller sizes and switch to cutaway for the 7.5-inch on fleece or jersey. Bold and graphic. Thats all it needs to be.

Text me through the shop chat if anything stitches funny on the wings and Ill check the underlay settings for ya.

My neighbour Sarah picked this up last week for a retirement gift she was making her colleague. She wanted something that felt like a garden without being a plain flower, and this one hit exactly right. The dragonfly's wings are built from overlapping white satin petals with a crosshatch tatami fill that catches the light differently depending on which angle you hoop it. Green leaf shapes fan out along the top wings like real foliage, and a lil coral pink daisy sits dead-centre at the thorax with a yellow middle, just enough colour to pull the whole thing together. Small golden amber buds scatter off the tips, so even at the 5 inch size theres alot of detail working for you.

Ive been getting orders for this one from people doing linen tote bags and cotton pillow covers, and I can see why. The density is around 793 stitches per square inch, which means it sits nice and flat without that stiff cardboard feel you sometimes get on complex fills. Use cutaway stabiliser on anything stretchy and a lightweight tearaway on woven fabrics like canvas or twill. Center it on the back of a denim jacket if you want impact, or or drop down to a cream linen pouch at 3.5 inches if you want something lighter. Pair a dark navy or charcoal thread in the bobbin so the underside stays tidy, and skip water-soluble topping unless youre working on towelling.

Flag me down if the corners pucker on a stretch tee.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0699/6262/9270/files/FloralDragonflyMachineEmbroideryDesign.png?v=1782281644
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0699/6262/9270/collections/Floral_Garden_Machine_Embroidery_Design.png?v=1759828840
