Use a tearaway stabiliser on stable woven fabric like cotton twill or canvas. Keep your bobbin tension even because outline work with no fill will show thread inconsistency more clearly than a dense fill would. Iron flat before hooping to get a crisp stitch line, especially on linen which can pucker at the hoop edge.
