So this one took a while to get right. Theyre standing shoulder to shoulder like they just posed for a group photo. The centre gnome wears a tall red pointed hat and is clearly in charge. Blue hat on the left, yellow-gold on the right. Their giant fluffy beards swallow everything below the nose, which is exactly the gnome charm people love.

But the little details are what make it worth sitting down at the machine for. A string of lights loops between the two outer hats, bulbs hanging in blue, amber, yellow and purple. Small pine trees peek in from each side at ankle level. Scattered snowflake stitches in the background keep it light without crowding the main trio. The ground is a thin sandy tatami strip that anchors them so they dont just float.

Fifteen colours sounds like a lot and it is, but the colour changes are well-grouped so you wont be rethreading constantly. Density runs at 1,090 stitches per square inch and tops out at 61,206 on the 7.5-inch version, so use a medium to heavy cutaway stabiliser and a 75/11 or 80/12 sharp needle. The big beards are dense satin sections so dont rush those zones. Smallest size is 3.5 by 3.49 inches, all the way up to 7.49 by 7.5 at the top. I sold about a dozen of these last christmas on cushion covers and every customer who sent back photos said it was worth the thread time.

Works best on medium-weight fabrics with a bit of structure. Natural canvas, cotton twill, fleece blankets and felt all stitch nicely. Pale or mid-tone backgrounds let all 15 colours pop properly. White, cream, soft grey or pale blue are the sweet spots. Skip very dark fabrics, youll just end up with the lighter hat colours fighting for visibility.

Load the correct size for your project, check colour sequence in your software before you start, and run a test on scrap first if youre using a new fabric weight.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0699/6262/9270/files/FestiveChristmasGnomeTrioEmbroideryDesign.png?v=1771062421
