Use a good quality cutaway on woven cotton for the larger sizes, not tearaway, the density will stress the fabric. I wanted something that felt like a real botanical illustration but also read as a heart from across the room. My wife ordered a cushion cover with this last February and the detail came out really well on cream linen fabric. Use polyester thread for the red tones so the colour doesnt bleed if the item gets washed. Add a water-soluble topping on any fabric with texture or pile. Avoid black fabric here, the cream highlights wont show against it.
