heron-marshland
Heron in Marshland Embroidery Design, Instant Download

The heron is standing dead-still, which is what herons do when theyre hunting. Upright posture, neck slightly curved, that long red-orange beak pointed forward. The body feathers sit in layered blue-grey satin sections with the stitching running in different directions on the wing versus the breast to suggest the actual feather structure. Its the kind of directional work that takes time to digitise properly and you can see it in how the bird reads from a distance.

Cattails stand behind and beside the heron in two shades of green, dark stems and lighter leaf blades. The bulrush heads are that dark reddish brown. Water appears at the bottom as gentle running stitch wave lines in light blue, and 3 small pink fish sit in the water just below the herons feet. The fish are tiny, like maybe 4 stitches each at small sizes, but at the 6.85-inch width they read properly and add alot to the whole scene.

Eleven colours, 10 stops. Stitch density is low at 338 per square inch so this one stitches out fast. Use medium cutaway on cotton or linen, the long satin runs on the neck need stable backing. Tear-away works on canvas or stable denim. Hoop it snug and keep tension even. I had a customer order 4 of these last spring to give as framed hoop gifts to their birdwatching walking group, and honestly that kind of order tells you everything about the audience for this design.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0699/6262/9270/files/HeroninMarshlandMachineEmbroideryDesign.png?v=1762239323
