Avoid dark navy or black base because the cream beard and white pompom get swallowed. Use a good cutaway stabiliser underneath given the stitch density at the larger sizes, this isnt a tearaway job once you get above 3.5 inches. Hoop with the grain and go slow on the satin stitching sections.
