The stalk comes up from the bottom at a slight curve, thickens into a round black seed pod in the middle, then throws out about 20 thin wire-like stems in all directions. Each stem tip holds a small solid red heart in place of the usual feathery seed. Three or four of those hearts have let go and float free toward the upper right corner, like theyre blowing off in a breeze. The rest are still attached.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTwo colours. Black handles everything structural: the stalk, the centre pod, all the radiating stem lines and the wire threads trailing the loose floating hearts. Red handles only the hearts, both attached and drifting. Its a clean split. Low stitch count, 5316 at the smallest and 10828 at the largest, density sitting at just 208 per square inch. That means very fast stitch-out and almost no stabiliser drama, a light tearaway is enough on woven cotton and muslin.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSizes: 3.5 wide by 3.25 tall at the small end, 7.5 by 6.95 at the large. The big size lets each individual radiating line breathe so they stay seperate from their neighbours. At the small size the stems pack in but still read clearly. Use linen, fine cotton, light canvas or poplin for the best results. Skip stretch fabric, wire-thin running stitches will wobble on knit without a very firm backing. Avoid heavy pile fabric entirely.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis one travels well outside of february. One customer stitched the 5-inch on a linen tote she carries to a morning market and gets stopped about it regularly. The drifting hearts give the design movement even though its technically static.
