The face is drawn in one unbroken line. Nose, lips, jaw, neck, bare shoulder, all connected without lifting the pen. Thats the visual trick that makes this style work, it looks almost too simple until you actually try to draw it and realise how much skill went into getting it right.

On top of the head theres a full crown of peonies, proper round ruffled blooms sitting dense and heavy over the profile. Two butterflies float around the figure, one near the shoulder and one up by the flowers, both drawn in open outline style with no fill inside the wings. Behind the face and body there are 5 soft colour-wash patches sitting like loose watercolour shapes, blue near the flowers, peach at the cheek and neck, pink below the jaw and at the torso, yellow dots at the ear for earrings. So the line work is black and those soft wash shapes sit behind it like a shadow that missed.

Its a design I genuinely like. Last spring a customer picking up garment stock dropped me a note saying it was the only girl-portrait design she'd seen that didnt look dated. I think thats because the line stays restrained and the fill doesnt try to cover everything in sight.

Lay a woven stabiliser behind woven cotton or a smooth ponte knit and the single-line work tracks cleanly without any wobble. Skip loose weaves and rough textures because the unbroken line reads best on a surface that doesnt have its own visual noise. Five colours, 4 changes, so build your bobbin thread ahead of time and keep your tension consistent across the colour switches.
