Its a heart, but the whole thing is the flag. The blue canton sits up in the top-left corner the way it does on the real flag, packed with white satin stars. Then the red and white stripes sweep diagonally across the rest of the heart shape, wider at the top and pinching down to that bottom point. Three colours total: navy blue, bright red, white. Thats it. Simple and it works because of how the geometry lines up.

And the stitching does alot of the heavy lifting here. The stripes are done with long directional satin columns that follow the diagonal, so on the finished piece you get this ribbon-like sheen where the light catches the thread at different angles. That densely-stitched canton sits with cutaway underneath to hold it flat. professional digitising tools digitised this one clean, minimal jump stitches between the star clusters, 36 trims across the whole design which is pretty tight for nine sizes.

I get messages around memorial day and veterans day from people who want the standard flag design but something softer, and this one fills that gap. One customer ordered the 6.43-inch build on a champagne linen tote last summer and sent me photos, it sat right in the centre of the bag and the diagonal stripes made it look like the flag was waving. Really nice result on natural-coloured fabric.

Stitch on white, cream, oatmeal or light grey cotton for the cleanest look. Avoid busy patterns because the stripe detail gets lost. Pop the smaller 3.01-inch on a shirt pocket, hat front, or tote handle tab. Use the largest size as a centrepiece on a canvas pillow or denim jacket back panel.

Use a good cutaway stabiliser under the canton area, the density there runs high and tearaway wont hold it flat on anything with any stretch to it. The bobbin used 94 feet on the smallest size and nearly 340 feet on the biggest, so check your bobbin before you start the large size or youll get a colour-change mid-stripe which is not a great look.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • 4th of july tees and tank topsStitch the mid 5-in on a white cotton tee for a 4th of july cookout and the stripes really pop in photos.
  • Memorial Day and Veterans Day apparelPop the medium feature on a navy polo or chambray shirt for memorial day events and it reads instantly without being loud.
  • Patriotic tote bags and canvas pouchesCentre the 4-inch version across a cotton shopper and the diagonal stripes give it an almost hand-printed poster feel.
  • Denim jacket back panel centrepieceRun the 6.43-inch on a denim trucker-jacket back panel as a standalone piece with nothing else around it.
  • Baseball caps and bucket hatsUse the smallest 3-inch size on a baseball cap front where the heart shape fits neatly above the brim.
  • Cream or oatmeal linen pillow coversHoop the 5-inch on a cream linen pillow cover for a patriotic home accent that isnt too in-your-face.
  • Custom patriotic baby onesiesEmbroider the tiny 3-inch on a white cotton onesie for a baby born around independence day.
  • Fire department and first responder gear giftsStitch on a canvas gear bag or custom patch for a first responder gift and add a name below it in block letters.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
