Its a messy bun girl portrait done in that bold graphic style thats all over patriotic apparel right now. Hair goes up in a wild loose bun, big red bow on top with white stars printed across it like a bandana. The aviator sunglasses are the American flag reflected back at you, red and white stripes across the lenses with the blue canton sitting up on the inside corners. Red lips. Bold black linework on the hair thats got real energy to it.
Below the portrait sits the text AMERICAN in thick uppercase block letters with Girl underneath in a flowing red script. The contrast between the heavy black caps and the loose red cursive is what makes this thing work. And the whole design reads from across a room which is exactly what you want on a tee or a tote walking around a 4th of july cookout.
This one moves steadily around independence day but it keeps selling right through summer and into fall too. One customer at a patriotic boutique ordered the top 7-in on white linen for a vendor booth and sent me photos from the event. The design held up perfect in the sun, no colour bleed, all 42k stitches crisp on the cotton twill.
Best on white, cream or light grey cotton or linen. Skip dark fabric entirely, the black linework needs contrast to read properly. The smaller 3.5-inch works well on a cap or pocket, run the bigger sizes on tote bags, aprons, or shirt fronts. Use a firm cutaway stabiliser on knits, the dense directional stitching on the hair section needs solid backing.
