Border designs are a bit tricky to digitise well and this one took me kinda longer than I expected, the textured nut tops in particular, because they need that hatched fill to read as acorn caps and not just flat blobs. Nine thousand six hundred and eighty stitches in a 3.5 by 1.69 inch strip, density 254, which is the highest-density design Ive released in this fall series. actually worth it though, because those little tops come out with actual visible texture at this count.

I digitised it in digitising tools with each leaf shape in a directional satin fill that points from stem to tip, gives the leaves a natural-looking direction, not the generic grid fill you see on lower-effort designs. Four colours: burnt orange, deep brown, golden yellow, and cream-tan. The sequence builds leaf-by-leaf across the border so colour transitions are clean at each element, not splitting mid-leaf.

A customer ordered this last month for a set of autumn napkins she was making as gift sets, she did four napkins with the border running along one short edge of each, and the result looked genuinely professional. Use a 75/11 needle and run at slower-than-usual speed for the first colour pass. Dont skip the cutaway stabiliser, at density 254 tearaway will pull on anything with give in the weave. Stitch a test strip on scrap fabric first if youre doing something special like linen napkins since the density is unforgiving on loosely woven textiles. Skip any fabric with stretch, the border will ripple.

Stitch on cream, natural, or white cotton for the full four-colour palette to show clearly, the golden yellow disappears on light tan but glows on white. Im happy to swap the colour sequence file if you want the orange to read as the dominant tone.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Autumn napkin short edge borderAutumn napkin short edge border for a harvest gift set of four, each napkin with the strip running along the bottom hem.
  • Fall table runner edge embroideryFall table runner edge treatment at both short ends of a linen runner, the dense acorn texture reads as a finishing detail.
  • Seasonal kitchen towel border bandKitchen towel border band for someone who does a full autumn kitchen redecoration and wants even the towels to match.
  • Canvas tote bag base trim lineCanvas tote bag base trim line, the slim 1.69-inch height leaves the main bag face completely clear for a name or second design.
  • Harvest placemat border accentApron hem border running the full width, the density 254 fill makes the acorn caps feel almost padded under fingertips after stitching.
  • Autumn pillow sham edge detailPillow sham edge detail for a harvest-theme bedroom update from september through november.
  • Fall apron hem border embroideryQuilted placemat front strip at each of two placemats in a set, tearaway on the woven face removes cleanly without disturbing the seams.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
