Mocked up a lil sitting elephant for nursery projects and it came out genuinely cute. He's a chubby sky-blue guy, sitting with his back legs splayed out front and his trunk raised up high. Perched right at the tip of that trunk is a tiny bright-blue butterfly, wings open, like the elephant just noticed it and is trying very hard not to sneeze. His mouth is open in a big goofy grin showing a row of white teeth, and hes got those round pink blush circles on his cheeks that read as cartoon joy rather than anything stylised.

The elephant body uses a directional tatami fill in medium sky-blue with defined shading lines on the belly and leg joints so the shape reads three-dimensional. Inner ear is a contrasting pink satin, and theres a row of small circular dot accents on the ear surface. Eye is large and expressive with a black iris and a white highlight catch-light. The butterfly on the trunk tip has two wings in bright blue with darker blue markings inside, small enough that it stitches clean even on the 3-inch size.

8 colours, density at 800 stitches per square inch. The five sizes run from 3.01 by 2.87 inches at 13,502 stitches up to 7.01 by 6.69 inches at 37,534 stitches. A customer last month used the 5-inch on a set of cotton bibs she made as a baby shower gift, stitched one on each bib, said the mum-to-be was suprised at how detailed it looked in real life compared to the preview image.

Stick to medium cutaway for baby items, its worth the extra effort on anything that gets washed repeatedly. Soft cotton, jersey knit, fleece and canvas all work. Pale colours like butter yellow, mint, soft grey and white let the sky-blue body show properly. Avoid busy prints, the outline detail gets lost against pattern fabric.

Digitalised in professional tools so the path sequencing is clean. Colour stops follow logical order so you wont be rethreading mid-elephant. Pick thread in a slightly lighter blue than you think you need, the density makes colours stitch darker than the spool looks.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Baby shower gift sets on cotton bibsStitch a matching set of 3-inch versions on cotton bibs and bundle them as a baby shower gift with a muslin swaddle
  • Nursery wall art on embroidery hoopsMount the 5-inch in a 6-inch embroidery hoop with a soft fabric backing and hang it on the nursery wall above the cot
  • Kids bedroom personalised cushion coversCentre the large size on a cushion cover in butter yellow or mint cotton for the reading corner in a kids bedroom
  • Baby blanket corner accent stitchingPlace the small size in one corner of a knit baby blanket as a subtle accent that doesnt overpower the whole piece
  • Toddler backpack or bag front panelsEmbroider the 4-inch on the front pocket of a small canvas toddler backpack for daycare or playgroup
  • Baby onesie chest embroideryPut the 3-inch on a white onesie chest for a gift that looks custom-made from a boutique but costs a fraction
  • Gender-neutral nursery decor projectsUse the medium size on neutral grey or sage fabric for nursery decor that works regardless of whether the gender is known
  • Children's hospital gift quiltsStitch the design onto small quilt squares and assemble them into a lap quilt donated to a paediatric ward

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
