This baby giraffe has a lot going on on top of its head. Its sitting there with this enormous explosion of curly scribble hair, dozens of looping lines going in every direction, almost like someone gave a giraffe a perm and then another perm on top of that one. It also has round oversized glasses sitting on its snout. The neck has the proper giraffe spot pattern, the body sitting with little hooves tucked under, and the whole character has this totally unfazed look like it knows exactly how it looks and doesnt care.

One colour, black, single thread load, no colour changes. That curly nest on top is the interesting part from a stitching perspective because its done as hundreds of individual curved satin columns looping off in different directions, each one an underlay-to-satin pass that builds up the tangled mass. my main software managed the jump stitch count well so you dont get loads of thread tails to trim up there. Density sits at 848 average which is sensible for a black-on-white type design.

People have been buying this for kids gift items and novelty nursery pieces more than anything. Its kinda just the right amount of weird for someone who doesnt want a standard animal print but still wants something friendly. My customers use it on bright coloured fabric backgrounds where the black outline pops, mustard yellow, coral, sage green, turquoise cotton all work brilliantly. Last week I got a message from someone who stitched it on a coral onesie and said her whole family went mad for it.

Hoop on a medium tearaway for stable cotton and canvas. Cutaway if youre going on stretch jersey or soft fleece. Centre the design carefully in the hoop before you start or the top curls clip the frame edge at the 7.51-inch size. Try it on a mustard yellow tee first, honestly it looks great and the single-colour black reads beautifully against warm tones. Skip white fabric if you want some contrast drama.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Kids novelty birthday teeMustard yellow kids tee at the bigger sizes for a birthday gift that parents say is nothing like every other animal shirt out there.
  • Nursery wall hoop with quirky character themeRound nursery hoop wall piece at the 8-inch, the curly hair explosion fills the circular frame with exactly the right kind of energy.
  • Mustard yellow cotton tote bagCoral canvas tote for a mum who wants a bag that gets comments; I had a message last week from someone who said three people asked her where she got it.
  • Personalised kids backpack patchBackpack front pocket patch at the small 4-inch size, kids love the weird hair and the glasses combination and it reads clearly even at that compact size.
  • Baby shower gift onesie for funny parentsBib front on a bright teal or coral bib, the black ink pops cleanly against warm fabric tones and the design is funny enough that grandparents notice.
  • Cotton bib with funny animal themeOnesie chest for shower gifting targeted at parents with a sense of humour, a customer said her whole family went mad for the coral version.
  • Kids bedroom cushion coverKids bedroom cushion cover at the 5-inch on sage green cotton, the character fits a room that doesnt take nursery decor too seriously.
  • Framed hoop for a modern nurseryJournal cover on a blank canvas notebook at the 4-inch, stitched on the front like a proper illustration, the glasses and curls make it an instant talking point.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
