My husband pointed out that this is the only embroidery design he's ever seen that tells a story left to right, and thats a fair description of it. Its a horizontal strip of four chubby cartoon babies, all in nappies, going through the classic first-year stages from left to right: tummy time, crawling, sitting up, and then standing with arms stretched out like they've just figured out the whole walking thing. Its a bit like a cave painting of baby development, just with rounder shapes and teal puddle patches under each one.

The proportions are specific to this design. Its very wide and shallow, the largest size runs 7.5 inches across but only 2.42 inches tall. That makes it a natural choice for a banner placement rather than a square block, the bottom hem of a blanket, a cot bumper front panel, across the chest of a small bodysuit, or along the edge of a burp cloth. Run a layer of tear-away stabiliser under lightweight fabrics like interlock or thin cotton jersey and the stitching stays flat.

6 colors and only 5 changes so its a fast stitch-out. The black outlines and skin-tone fill make up most of the count, the teal ground patches and small accent stops go quickly. Stitch counts from 6,014 to 14,746 across the 5 sizes, so even the largest version finishes fast. On thick fleece or minky blanket fabric, swap to a cutaway backing and add a topping sheet so the cartoon faces dont get swallowed by the pile. Use the 7-in motif size along a blanket hem and fold it up for gifting without any extra packaging needed. Stitch on cream or white fabric for the warmest skin-tone rendering.

Its also been used as a label-style placement on the front of fabric keepsake boxes. Email me if you need a hand with any of the files.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Baby blanket bottom hem or border panelAlong a blanket hem the horizontal strip sits naturally and frames the edge without bunching.
  • Newborn or infant bodysuit chest stripOn a bodysuit chest the shallow proportions fit below the neckline without wrapping around the arms.
  • Burp cloth front panelA burp cloth with the 5-6 inch version has enough width to run across the full front panel.
  • Cot bumper or nursery bedding borderOn a cot bumper the 7-in motif size fills a single panel section and aligns with quilt-style spacing.
  • Baby shower gift on a hooded towel hemStitched on a towel hem its a baby shower gift that doesnt require any extra packaging to look finished.
  • Fabric keepsake box or memory book coverOn a fabric keepsake box lid the milestone sequence reads like a timeline label.
  • Nursery wall hanging on a linen panelOn a linen panel in a nursery hoop frame the sequential figures read as a graphic development chart.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
