The baby seal and parent sit together in a classic side-by-side pose, the little one tucked in close with its rounded body leaning just enough to show the pair belong together. Theres alot going on in those 13 colours when you see the full-size version, dove grey bodies with cream undersides, a pale blue background wash behind them, the dark detailing on the eyes is what gives both characters their expression.

professional digitising tools handled the directional satin fill across the curved seal bodies really well, the density sits at 994 which is light enough that it wont stiffen up a soft onesie fabric. Run an underlay pass first on the grey body sections before the main satin, it holds everything flat. Use cutaway stabiliser on any knit or jersey base cloth, tearaway on woven cotton. Pop it on a pastel onesie and the dove grey reads softly without disappearing into the fabric.

And the stitch range is wide here from 18,133 on the chest baseline up to 48,367 at 6.48 inches wide, so pick the size that suits your hooped fabric before you load the file. But thats worth checking once before you start rather than mid-hoop. Nine sizes total so there should be one that fits your project without rescaling.

One customer ordered this for a twin nursery set last spring, two matching onesies in different sizes for the babies, which I thought was a smart use of the 9-size range. The 4-inch file across a pastel blue onesie with dove grey thread is the combination I see most often in photos people send me. Stitch the background colour first before the body fills so the base layer sits under cleanly.

Add a topping to keep the grey satin smooth on any textured fleece if youre using that for a blanket panel rather than a garment.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Baby onesie nursery embroiderythe 3-in chest on a pastel blue cotton onesie with dove grey thread reads clearly even on a small garment.
  • Newborn gift set bib and hatA 4-inch hoop on a white bib pairs well with a matching hat for a coordinated newborn gift set.
  • Baby shower favour bag patchesStitched on small felt patches they can be attached to organza favour bags as baby shower gifts.
  • Nursery wall art hoop displayThe 6-inch version framed in a plain white hoop makes a soft nursery wall piece above a cot.
  • Ocean animals baby blanket panelOn a cream fleece blanket panel the sky blue background wash blends naturally with the pale fabric.
  • Twin nursery matching garment setTwo sizes from the 9-size range stitched on matching onesies work nicely for twin nursery sets.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
