Cooked up this be free piece because feather-and-birds word art keeps getting ordered, I sell it every single week. The composition has the words BE FREE in tall solid lettering, a large feather running vertically beside the text, and 3 small bird silhouettes lifting off the top of the feather like theyre escaping from it. Its a classic format but the digitising makes the feather look proper, each barb line is individually stitched with directional running stitches so it actually reads as a feather and not just a blurry shape.

Single colour all the way through, density 368, stitch range from 8,234 up to 20,167 across 5 sizes. The lettering uses satin fill on the thicker strokes, the feather shaft is a satin column, and the barbs are back-and-forth running stitch. A customer told me she stitched it in deep navy on cream linen and the texture contrast on the barb sections was what made it stand out, the stitching direction catches light differently on each part.

Email me if the file wont open in your machine software, Ill send a fresh copy. Sizes go from 3.4 inches wide at the smallest up to 7.3 inches. Heights run deeper than the width on this one, through to 7.5 tall on the largest, so check your hoop clearance before loading.

Back woven cotton and linen with tearaway. Use cutaway for any stretch fabric or knit because the satin lettering sections pull on unstable ground. Try placing a topping layer on towelling or any looped pile fabric so fine running stitches dont sink in.

People use this on bedroom wall hoops, yoga bags, tote bags, tees, hoodie chests, denim jackets. Its a design that actually suits most fabrics and most neutral colour schemes.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Bedroom wall hoop artStitched on natural linen in a 7 or 8 inch hoop it makes a clean wall art piece that suits a bedroom or meditation space.
  • Yoga mat bagsThe medium size on the front of a canvas yoga bag is a practical use case that sells well as handmade market pieces.
  • Canvas tote bagsOn a plain canvas tote in black or navy thread the word art reads strong without relying on colour to carry it.
  • Hoodie chestsA large version on the chest of a plain hoodie in the same colour as the garment gives a tonal embossed look.
  • Denim jacket front panelsOn a denim jacket front panel or chest pocket it suits the casual wearing crowd that goes for word art over graphic prints.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
