Sketched out this layout so the sunflower and the text feel like theyre genuinely together rather than just placed next to each other. The script runs down the left in three stacked lines, Be, your own, Sunshine, each word on its own baseline, and the sunflower anchors the right side with the leaves curling under the word Sunshine so it feels grounded. Theres a lightness to the whole layout that makes it feel summery and positive without being saccharine about it.
3 colours: dark green for the leaves (first stop), yellow for the sunflower petals (second stop), then black covers the script lettering plus the flower centre fill and seed pattern. Color changes: 2. my workhorse software digitised the petals with directional satin at density 633, each petal gets its own angle so they radiate outward convincingly rather than all lying flat in the same direction. The black centre is a dense fill with a fine crosshatch topping pass to get that seedy sunflower centre texture.
5 sizes from 4 inches to 8 inches, stitch counts from 13,138 to 30,246. Lettering is the limiting factor at small sizes, the smaller the hoop the thinner the letter columns get, and below 4 inches you risk drop-out on the thinner strokes. At 5 inches every letterform holds solid and readable. One customer wanted it on a summer baby onesie last june and the 4-inch fitted the chest panel cleanly with clear letterforms on cotton jersey with a tearaway backing.
Best fabric is a white or cream cotton tee, the three-colour sunflower arrangement pops cleanly against pale backgrounds. Use cutaway on jersey or knit, tearaway on woven cotton. That cursive letterwork is the hardest part of this design to execute on slippery or stretchy fabric so dont skip the stabiliser step. Add a topping layer on any fabric with visible texture or pile so the script doesnt sink.
