The bee moth hybrid is kinda just a creature that shouldnt exist but really works as a design. The wings are the main event: big arching moth wings with all the veining drawn in, those fine dividing lines across the surface making the whole thing look like a real insect specimen. The fill colour in the wings is a pale icy blue-grey, almost translucent-looking when stitched on white fabric. Two antennae arc up from the top of the head and the round black eye sits midway down the body on the right side.

The body is cream white, plump and rounded like a proper bumblebee shape, and the abdomen at the bottom switches to amber orange and black stripes stitched in tight satin columns with the customising done in my digitising suite. Six colours total: orange, white, two shades of grey, black for the outlines and eye, and that pale blue for the wing cells. The contrast between the delicate wing structure and the chunky striped abdomen is honestly the weirdest and best part of it.

I drew this one after a customer asked me last spring for something that sat between a bee and a luna moth, she wanted it for a tattoo-style embroidery jacket panel and I figured Im gonna give this a proper go. She ended up stitching it on black denim and the pale wing fills absolutely glowed against the dark ground.

Run mid cutaway under underneath, the wing area has enough open mesh stitching that a tearaway will shift. Stitch on black, deep navy or dark charcoal fabric for the strongest result. Avoid cream or white backgrounds because the wing fill blends in and ya lose the whole point. The 7.32-inch size is the one for a jacket back panel or a large tote face.

Pop the smaller 3.42-inch on a denim shirt pocket or a canvas patch for a subtler take. The black outlines read fine even at the smallest size.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Cottagecore and dark academia jacket panelsStitch the 7-inch on a black denim jacket back for a cottage-dark-academia hybrid look that gets questions.
  • Botanical art embroidery hoopsHoop the mid-size in a wooden frame against dark velvet fabric for a Victorian insect specimen wall piece.
  • Entomology fan tote bagsSew the design on a black heavy tote for someone into entomology or natural history illustration.
  • Nature-themed cushion coversEmbroider onto a dark linen scatter cushion for a nature-themed sitting room that leans moody and earthy.
  • Fantasy insect patch on denimUse the smaller size as an iron-on-style patch placement on a denim shirt or jacket lapel area.
  • Witchy aesthetic sweatshirtsPop the design on a black sweatshirt for a witchy aesthetic wardrobe piece that avoids all the obvious symbols.
  • Science classroom wall art hoopsHoop a small version and hang it in a science classroom alongside real mounted specimens as a textile art contrast.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
