Worked this one up last winter after a few customers had been asking about christmas word art that reads top to bottom rather than the usual horizontal layout. One customer wanted to run text down the front of a zip-up hoodie and the horizontal version just wasnt working for her, so this came out of that conversation. Tall vertical stack of letters, stars tucked into the open counters, snowflake dots along the serifs. Deep emerald and cherry red, five colour stops. Its got alot going on up close but reads as clean single-word typography from a distance.
The width is narrow because its vertical, 1.01 to 2.16 inches wide, 3.5 reaching to 7.5 tall across 5 sizes. That makes it ideal for placement along a seam, down a sleeve, or as the centrepiece of a pillow. Stitch count ranges from 4,113 at the smallest to 9,080 at full height. Density of 560 on the satin letterforms gives the letters a solid opaque look rather than a sheer one. Hoop it tight, run the emerald thread first, then the red accents.
Cream throw pillow fabric is one of the best bases for this, the emerald and red look almost jewel-toned against an off-white ground. Also works on ivory linen and natural cotton canvas. Use a cutaway stabiliser for any fabric with give, and go with a tear-away on firm wovens only. Ease back on the machine speed for the colour changes, five stops means five chances for tension to drift if youre going fast.
Run this down a stocking leg, along a table runner edge, or along the zip seam of a hoodie. Its flexible in a way that horizontal word art isnt. Best results with a firm hoop and standard placement, no topping needed on smooth fabrics.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
