Mocked up this birthday cake design for a mum who was making a whole set of coordinated birthday gear for her daughter's party last month, shirts, tote bags, the lot. Its a three-layer cake, chocolate brown layers visible at the sides, thick pink frosting piped between each tier, three white candles sitting on top with little butter yellow flames. Theres some tiny confetti dots on the frosting face which honestly make it. Its the kind of design that immediately reads birthday from across the room.
Eleven colours make it the most complex in my birthday collection: chocolate brown cake, pale pink frosting, deeper rose frosting shadow, white candle, butter yellow flame, warm amber flame glow, ivory confetti dots, coral dot accent, dark outline, a mint green highlight stripe, and a cream base layer. Stitch counts go from 10,981 at the 2.4-inch size up to 27,638 at the full 5.28-inch hoop. Density sits at 950 which is high, use a heavy cutaway stabiliser, dont try tearaway here, the fill pull on the frosting sections is significant.
I digitising this in my digitising suite and the frosting satin runs follow a curved directional path so the swirl pattern actually looks like piped icing rather than flat fill. A customer hooped this on white pique fabric for a birthday polo and it came out genuinely impressive, the candy colours on white pique were clean and the outlines held sharp edges at the 4-inch size. Bobbin tension matters on the candle sections because the white satin is thin and any looseness shows.
Stitch on a white pique shirt for the crispest result. Best birthday gear combination is white or pastel pink ground fabric. Run the smallest 2.4 inch run on a gift tag base or a small hair clip. Add a heavy cutaway layer and dont skip the topping on any textured fabric so the frosting dots dont sink. Avoid dark fabric because 11 colours at this scale need a light base to read fully.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Birthday party tees for kids in matching setsRunning 6 to 8 matching tees at the 4-inch size makes a coordinated party shirt set without colour drift.

- Canvas tote bags for birthday favour bagsA 4-inch design on a standard tote bag exterior panel sits well above the handle attachment zone.
- Iron-on fabric patches for birthday bannersFelt-backed iron-on patches made from the 3-inch file can be sewn onto birthday banner felt pennants.
- Party aprons for birthday baking activitiesParty aprons in white cotton at the 4-inch chest placement are a popular request for birthday baking sets.
- Gift wrapping fabric panels as reusable bag toppersFabric gift bags with the 5-inch version stitched on the front panel make a reusable party gift wrap.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
