I get messages asking for bird designs pretty regularly and this blue bird is one of the ones people keep coming back to. Fourteen colours in a design this size, smallest goes 2.67 inches wide, tallest size reaches 6.5 inches high, is honestly alot to manage in a hoop but Ive worked the colour order carefully in professional digitising tools so the changes flow logically from the background fills outward to the detail layers. The stitch count runs from 14,553 at the smallest up to 29,914 on the largest, and the density sits at 928 which is on the higher side but necessary for getting those feather fills to actually read as feathers rather than flat blocks of colour.
Seven sizes, all tested, all behaving well on cotton. The directional stitching on the wings takes some careful hooping, make sure the grain of the fabric runs straight or the feather directions look off. Use a firm cutaway stabiliser, especially for the 4 and 5-inch sizes where the breast fills are dense. Heres the thing about 14-colour designs: your bobbin thread shows if the tension isnt right, so do a test run on scrap fabric first and check the underside before committing to your final piece.
Stitch on white, cream or light grey fabric so the blue and rust tones pop. Cotton quilting fabric, canvas and linen all work well. Avoid dark backgrounds unless ya want just the outline effect, the mid tones in the wings wont show up on navy. A customer told me last monday she put this on a set of linen tea towels for a birdwatcher gift set and they sold out at a craft fair same weekend.
Message me if you need a size thats not in the pack or want to swap a colour.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Left chest embroidery on casual shirtsThe 2.67-inch size fits neatly on a left chest placement, use firm cutaway on cotton twill for dense 14-colour fills.
- Birdwatcher gift linen tea towelsStitch the 3.5 small on a natural linen tea towel, use tearaway on woven linen and slow machine for colour changes.
- Nature-themed canvas tote bag centreCentre the 4-inch build on a canvas tote front, cream or sage green background lets the blue and rust colours show well.
- Wildlife nursery wall art hoop frameThe 4-inch size in a plain hoop makes a framed nature art piece, stitch on cream cotton muslin with cutaway backing.
- Garden club member jacket patchUse the 3.5 small on a structured patch, backing with firm tearaway, then attach to a jacket breast pocket.
- Spring wedding favour sachet decorationThe 2.67-inch size on a small cotton sachet bag looks fresh for spring gifting, tearaway works on woven cotton.
- Cottage-style kitchen cushion accentStitch the 4-inch build on an oatmeal linen cushion cover, use cutaway stabiliser and press lightly from the back after.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
