Nine colours on a breaching whale. That takes a bit of planning in professional digitising tools because you need the colour sequence to follow the breach angle, dorsal dark fills first, then the belly lighter tones over the underside, then the water and splash whites last. If you stitch it out of sequence the lighter belly colour ends up covering the dark dorsal edge and you lose that crisp line where the body meets the water. I first digitised this version back in march after the original sold well and I wanted a size-optimised version that held detail at the smaller hoopings.

You get nine sizes, 3.5 through to 7 in jumbo. Stitch range is 1,135 up to 37,058 at the largest. Nine colours means nine thread changes, use pre-wound bobbins and check your bobbin level after each of the big fill passes because the body fills eat alot of thread. Density is 102 which is solid but not extreme. Stick to firm cutaway on anything knit or loosely woven. Tearaway is fine on woven cotton canvas, dont need topping unless youre on terry or fleece.

I had a customer order this last week and she was making tote bags for a marine biology charity shop, seven bags, all with the 5-inch whale, in white thread on navy canvas. Text me if you want to know how I position the design on a standard bag width, I can tell you the offset I used. She said the splash details came out looking very realistic even at the 5-inch scale which suprised her, thats the topping at work, it keeps the fill stitches lifted and legible.

Stitch the full 7.5-inch on a linen throw pillow and it becomes a proper centrepiece for a nautical room. Text me if you hit any problems with the download or files.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
