An open book sitting flat with about 15 butterflies rising up from the pages, each one a different colour, getting smaller and more scattered toward the top like theyre drifting off. The biggest ones near the centre of the composition are done properly, monarch orange-red wings with satin detail, deep navy blues, magenta purples. As they climb they get smaller and looser, more suggestion than detail. Its a well-thought-out layout, the tan book grounds it and the butterflies give it movement.

13 colours including 4 named defaults from the colour chart which is actually a clean palette for this much variation. embroidery software used lighter satin fills on the upper smaller butterflies which is how the density stays manageable at 777 stitches per square inch while still looking full. The 9-size range goes from 3.5 by 2.96 inches up to 7.5 by 6.32 inches, so theres a good spread for different projects.

Im suprised how many teachers order this one. A school librarian got in touch last spring and said she had this stitched on canvas book bags she gave to kids as end-of-year reading awards. She used the 4.5-in run, said the colours were vivid enough on natural canvas that the kids were genuinely excited to get them. Thats a use case I hadnt thought of when I made it.

Stitch this on natural canvas, cream cotton, or off-white linen and the warm tan book tones sit against the neutral ground properly. The butterfly colours are bright enough to show on pale grey too. Avoid busy or patterned fabric because the composition needs clear space around it. Use tearaway stabiliser on most woven fabrics, swap to medium cutaway for cotton jersey or fleece. Keep speed moderate on the multi-colour butterfly sections and avoid rushing the navy and magenta fills.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
