Where the line art version is all about the wing detail, this one leads with the frame. The circle here has weight to it, its more of a proper border than just a containing ring, and the butterfly inside sits proportionally smaller so the whole thing reads like a badge or patch shape. Its the same single-colour approach but the composition feels more finished, more like something youd stitch onto felt and cut out as a patch rather than a standalone panel piece.

Five sizes, 3.5 to 7-in across, stitch counts 3,906 to 10,207. industry-grade software did the file work and the density came out at 195, so it runs light and fast even at the larger sizes. Hoop a firm cutaway stabiliser on wool or felt where youre planning to trim the patch once its done, that stabiliser holds the shape after you cut. On canvas or denim the tearaway is fine if youre stitching it in place.

I get alot of orders for this one from people making patches for jackets, bags and denim. One customer last month told me she stitched it in mustard yellow on dark navy felt, trimmed around the circle border and hand-stitched it to her denim jacket collar. She got three enquiries from people who saw it at the market. The badge-like shape is what does it, and that heavier circle outline is why it works as a patch where the simpler version doesnt quite pull it off.

Try it in rust, mustard, sage or black on contrasting felt for the patch look. Stitch in white on navy denim for a classic jacket back or sleeve accent. Use a firm cutaway when you plan to cut it out after stitching. Works on wool scarves, canvas bags, chambray shirts, denim jackets, jute bags. Pick a thread colour that contrasts well and you cant go wrong with this one.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Iron-on or sew-on patches for denim jacketsStitch onto wool felt, cut out along the circle border and hand-sew to a denim jacket for a patch that looks handmade in the best way.
  • Felt badge applique for bags and accessoriesMustard or rust thread on dark navy felt makes a strong colour contrast patch that looks deliberate and designer.
  • Canvas tote bags and jute shopping bagsThe bold circular frame reads well at a distance on a canvas tote, making it visible even when carried or hung.
  • Wool scarves and winter accessoriesStitch in cream on a charcoal grey wool scarf for a subtle botanical accent that works in autumn and spring.
  • Denim shirt and jacket sleeve accentsSleeve placement on a denim or chambray shirt is a great use for the smaller 3.5 to 4.5 inch sizes.
  • Fabric-covered notebook or planner coversThe badge shape makes this great centered on a fabric-covered notebook, the circle looks intentional not random.
  • Spring market craft fair items and batch salesQuick to stitch at 3,906 stitches minimum means you can batch produce these for craft fair sales efficiently.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
