This one runs tall rather than wide, seven sizes from 2.88 to 4.45 inches across but 5.5 to 8.5 inches tall, which makes it a different shape to most designs in this range. That vertical proportion is the whole point; the fairy and wings need that height to breathe properly. Stitch counts go from 15,121 at the smallest size to 26,080 at the largest, density at 689 stitches per square inch. It's a decent amount of detail for the size range.

The wing section is what takes the most care. Gossamer satin fills, translucent-looking, thin, only work if the underlay is exactly right; too heavy and you lose the delicate quality, too light and the fills look patchy. Ive spent time getting that balance right in the digitising process. Use cutaway stabiliser on anything with any give. On organza or chiffon, which is where this design works best, use a complete water-soluble stabiliser sandwich: one layer under, one layer on top, and pull away gently after the design cools. The fine sparkle dots around the figure are single-needle straight stitches and theyll pull through a loosely woven fabric without backing.

I had a customer write me last september after stitching this onto the hem of a Halloween fairy costume her daughter was wearing, she said it held through a full night and looked brilliant by morning. Thats the kind of thing that tells you the file is doing its job. Stitch it on the back of a girls dressing gown, on a pillow for a toddler bedroom, or on a chiffon hair scarf. Use white or cream thread for the gown sections, not stark bright white, it keeps the finish painterly, not graphic. Avoid stiff canvas, those tall proportions want a fabric that drapes, not one that fights back.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Fantasy costume back embroidery4-inch on a costume base fabric; cutaway mandatory, test on scrap first if fabric is stretch or satin weave.
  • Toddler bedroom pillow3.5-in piece on a cotton toddler pillowcase; tearaway on woven cotton, wash inside-out cold to protect vein lines.
  • Chiffon hair scarf accent3-inch on a chiffon scarf; full water-soluble stabiliser sandwich both sides, 60wt thread for fine proportions.
  • Girls school bag front3-inch on a canvas school bag; tearaway stabiliser on woven canvas, standard 40wt polyester thread.
  • Nursery wall art hoop frame3.5-inch in an embroidery hoop on muslin; cutaway as permanent backing, frame for nursery wall display.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
