The butterfly itself is black and white with the wings split into panels, each panel stitched in a different directional angle so it doesnt look flat. White thread fills the lighter sections, black for the outlines and wing edges, and the detail work on the veining is done with satin columns that actually read as wing structure from a distance. Its the kind of design where the closer you look the more youre realising how much is going on in there.

Then below and around the butterfly there are these orange curling vines with 6-pointed star shapes dotted along em. The orange is warm, almost gold, and it wraps under the wings like a decorative base. 3 colours total: black, orange, white. 2 colour changes, so not a huge thread swap process. Stitch count goes from 11,607 on the small end through to 27,013 at 7.5 by 7.21 inches. 9 sizes in the file, digitised in professional digitising software.

I sent this one to a customer last spring who was making personalised birthday gifts for her daughter. She stitched it on a white canvas tote and said the orange on white looked way better than she expected. I get that reaction a lot with this one because the colour combination sounds a bit unusual on paper but it really works on fabric.

Lay down a soft cutaway here, the stitch density in the butterfly body is high enough that tearaway wont hold cleanly. Hoop your fabric taut before you start, especially for the larger sizes. Try it on black fabric if you want a more dramatic look, the orange and white thread pop hard against a dark background.

Send a quick note if theres any issue with the file and ill have a replacement out to you same day.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Birthday gift tote bags and canvas pouchesThe orange and white combination on natural canvas tote bags looks really clean and gift-ready.
  • Spring and summer apparel like t-shirts and tank topsThe 3.5 by 3.37 inch size fits well centred on t-shirt chest panels without overwhelming the fabric.
  • Baby shower decorative items and nursery hoopsSoft pastels and butterfly motifs are popular for nursery wall hoops and baby shower gifts.
  • Throw pillow covers and cushion embroideryMedium weight cotton throw pillow covers take the 5 inch size really well with cutaway backing.
  • Embroidery hoop wall art framed piecesThe design is self-contained enough to hoop and frame as standalone wall art without extra elements.
  • Jean jacket back patches and denim customisationThe 7-in face size fits across a denim jacket back and the orange pops nicely against indigo fabric.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
