I drew this one last february when I was trying to make something for valentines that wasnt just another heart-with-script. The idea was butterflies, alot of em, arranged so tight they actually form the heart shape when you step back. Took me abit longer than usual to get the wing placement right because every butterfly had to sit at a slightly different angle or the heart outline went wobbly.
Its got 5 colours in total, dusty pink, cream, rose, sage green, and warm gold, and the density sits at 112, which is solid without being heavy. The whole thing runs between 1,066 and 40,755 stitches across 9 ranging 3.5-7.5 7.5 max wide. I digitised it in my embroidery software, so the satin fills on each wing come out clean and the underlay keeps everything stable on stretch fabrics. Use a good cutaway stabiliser on jersey or fleece, dont skip that step or the wings pull.
One customer ordered three of these last spring, one for a tote, one for a kids hoodie, and one for a throw pillow. She sent me a photo and honestly the pillow version at full size looked gorgeous. Pop it on white cotton or cream linen and the colours really read well. Skip dark backgrounds if you can, the dusty pink reads grey on black fabric and you lose the butterfly effect.
And its worth knowing the bobbin tension matters on this one because the layered satin fills can drag if your machine is running loose. Best results Ive had are with a medium-weight tearaway under cotton and cutaway under knits. Holler if anything stitches out wrong and Ill sort it.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Valentine's Day gift tote embroideryValentine canvas tote at 5 inches, cutaway, natural canvas shows the dusty pink and sage palette without any colour muddying.
- Kids hoodie chest panel designFleece hoodie left chest at 4 inches, cutaway, polyester thread holds the five colours through washing much better than rayon.
- Decorative throw pillow centreThrow pillow front at 7.5 inches on cream linen, the full butterfly mosaic fills the face and looks genuinely luxurious.
- Wedding anniversary keepsake hoopFramed anniversary gift, 6-inch on white cotton, hoop in a wooden display frame, the no-background design reads like textile art.
- Girls bedroom wall art frameSatin label strip on a handmade quilt, 4-inch at the corner, iron-on tearaway on the cotton backing, a sweet personalised finishing touch.
- Baby shower gift bag accentWedding favour organza bag at 3.5 inches, light tearaway, the small version stitches fast and the butterfly shapes read clearly even at this scale.
- Spring jean jacket back panelDenim jacket back panel at 7 inches, firm cutaway, denim is unforgiving so a heavy stabiliser is genuinely non-negotiable here.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
