Three open-outline hearts float together here, nested in size from big to small, done in that clean sweeping line style where the satin stitching follows the curve of each heart without filling it solid. So its more like a drawn heart than a filled one. Around them youve got 8 black butterfly silhouettes scattered at different angles, wings spread, in various sizes from tiny ones to bigger ones about 3.5 inches across.

The whole composition feels airy because theres so much negative space. Butterflies and hearts together but nothing crowded. I stitch this one a lotta times on white cotton and the contrast is really sharp. Red satin outline on the hearts, black satin fill on the butterflies. 2 colours total, 1 colour change mid-run.

Comes in 5 sizes from 3.5 inches 7.5 ceiling wide. Stitch counts go from 6,623 at the smallest up to 19,196 at the largest. Honestly my favourite size is the mid-range, around 5 inches, because the butterfly details hold really well without the density getting too high. Layer a light cutaway on most wovens, or a regular cutaway if youre stitching on stretchy fabric or knitwear.

A customer last valentines ordered a dozen of the small size across a set of red tea towels for her shop. She told me the butterflies read perfectly at that scale. Pop it on a tote, a pillowcase, a kids shirt, or a quilting square. Best results on light or white fabric where both colours pop.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Valentine's Day tote bags and market bagsStitch the 7.5-in jumbo face centred on a canvas tote for a bold Valentine's Day carry.
  • Embroidered pillow covers for romantic home decorThe mid-range 5 inch size works great on a 20 inch pillow cover, with the butterflies sitting nicely in the corner area.
  • Quilting squares and patchwork projectsSmaller 3.5 inch version fits a 5 inch quilt square perfectly for a heart-themed patchwork block.
  • Kids shirts and rompers with a nature-love themeOn a kids cotton romper or tee, the chest-size 3.5 is proportional and the butterflies add a playful twist.
  • Tea towels and kitchen linen giftsSet of matching tea towels with the 4 inch version is a popular gift option customers keep reordering.
  • Zip pouches and fabric coin pursesThe chest-size 3.5 hoops cleanly on a zip pouch front panel, red and black reads crisp on cream canvas.
  • Framed hoop art for bedroom wallsHoop it in a 6 inch wooden frame as wall art. The open heart outlines fill the space without overwhelming it.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
