Big pink cosmos flower taking up most of the design, five wide petals spread out in a circle with fine directional fill lines running from petal edge to centre. The centre is a yellow-black cluster, kinda like a real cosmos flower centre, dense and textured. Sitting right on top of that centre is a monarch butterfly, wings open, carrot orange with black veining and white spots along the wing edges. Short green stem drops down below the flower. Thats it. Simple composition but it punches hard.
The butterfly is the part I spent the most time on during digitising. Getting the black vein lines to sit over the orange fill without losing the orange took some iteration. professional tools let me run the vein lines as a second colour pass on top of the orange satin fill, so the veins are crisp and the orange stays bright underneath. If youre gonna stitch this on cream or white cotton you'll see exactly what I mean when the wings come through.
Stitch counts go from 11k on the tiny 3.5 up to 28k at the 7.5 build, moderate density and 5 colour changes. Works fast on the small sizes. A customer this spring made the 5-in build for a set of white linen hand towels for her bathroom and sent me photos, the pink flower against white linen was genuinely lovely. Nine sizes available across the range.
Pair polymesh under cotton or linen, it tears away clean around those open petal lines. Add a water-soluble topping if youre stitching on velvet or terry cloth. Avoid very dark fabrics, the pink petals wont show. Cream, white, sage, and pale lavender all work well as background fabrics here.
