The butterfly sits right where the eye should be, wings fully spread, antennae pointing upward. Its not floating above her head or beside her ear, its actually occupying the same space as her eye, which is what makes the whole composition click. The facial features underneath are super minimal, just the brow, the lash line, a small nose and lips outlined in a single running stitch weight. Its mostly face-by-suggestion, which is a really different feel from the usual portrait embroidery designs out there.

One colour run, black only, and thats it. No colour changes at all. The butterfly wings do all the visual heavy lifting on their own, those satin-filled sections with the internal cell dividers give plenty of contrast and density variation even within a single thread. my digitising suite handled digitising, so the density on the wing cells and the underlay sequence on those delicate running stitches dont fight each other mid-run.

Size range goes from 5 inches up to 8 inches, so youve got some flex on placement. Most customers put it on the left chest of a white shirt or centred on a tote. Back in march I had a customer send me a photo of the 8-inch hooped onto a cream linen cushion cover and it looked genuinely like something from a boutique window display. Stitch range 10,727 at the smallest up to 18,602 at the largest, 26 trims total and zero colour stops.

Pair a no-show mesh cutaway on wovens, especially if its going on anything structured like denim or canvas. Pop a topping sheet on knits to stop those thin outline stitches sinking into the loops. Skip anything printed or patterned where the light background contrast gets lost. Hit me if anything goes sideways on your test run and Ill get you sorted fast.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Left-chest placement on women's fashion teesStitch the 5-inch chest on the left chest of a white or cream fitted tee for a clean fashion-forward look
  • Canvas tote bags for boutique or market stallsPop it centred on a heavyweight cotton tote and it reads like handmade art rather than printed merch
  • Cushion covers for bedroom or living room decorThe 8-inch size sits beautifully on a cushion cover, especially on cream linen or light grey cotton
  • Embroidery hoop wall art framed with raw edgesHoop in a plain wood frame with exposed stabiliser edges for minimal boho wall art
  • Denim jacket back panel or pocket detailPlace on the upper the denim jacket panel for a statement fashion piece that holds its detail even in dark fabric
  • Gift for butterfly collectors or fashion illustratorsFrame small on card stock and gift it to anyone obsessed with butterflies or feminine line art
  • Beauty brand merchandise and branded apparelWorks on branded polos, tote bags and aprons for beauty businesses that want a signature look

Behind every stitch

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
