Four cats peeking over the same ledge with wide round amber-yellow eyes. Left to right: a ginger tabby with orange and cream fur, a black-and-white tuxedo with a pink nose, a second ginger with darker brown stripe markings across the forehead, and on the far right a grey tabby with horizontal stripes sitting a bit lower so just his head and one outstretched paw clear the edge. All four have big round eyes and that permanently startled wide stare cats do.

The fur fill runs in short directional stitches following the natural growth direction on each section, so the orange ginger reads warm and fluffy rather than a flat solid block. Whiskers are fine single-run stitch lines extending out from each muzzle. Paws show at the bottom resting on the ledge edge, which grounds the design and makes the peeking-over-a-wall composition work. Eleven thread colours total, a decent stitch count of thread changes but theres nothing surprising for a multicolour pet piece at this level of fur detail. Density is 1,612 stitches per square inch, properly dense fills throughout.

Wide horizontal format, 7.5 inches across and only 2.85 inches tall at the biggest size. Use a medium to firm cutaway stabiliser on anything that moves or gets washed regularly, and float a layer of water-soluble topping over any textured fabric so the fine whisker stitch lines come out clean. Stitch count tops out at 34,465 on the large size. Smallest is 3.5 by 1.33 inches, fits on a pocket or narrow sleeve without the design being cut off.

Pick white, cream, pale grey or soft sage so the warm orange fur colours read clearly. Avoid warm orange or tan backgrounds where the ginger tabby fur will sink in and its contrast wont hold. A customer who runs a cat rescue had the design stitched on all the volunteer canvas aprons last summer and the thread held up through weekly machine washing without lifting or splitting at the whisker runs.

Nine sizes in the download. Dont skip a test swatch on scrap before the final piece if its your first run with eleven colours, the thread-change order matters more than youd think. Check needle size and top thread tension if the whisker lines arent crisp on the first run.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Tea towel hemline running across a kitchen towelRun the 7 inch jumbo along the bottom hemline of a cream linen tea towel, the cats-peeking pose reads as if they are peering over the edge of the towel itself
  • Tote bag top edge banner for cat ownersStitch across the top edge of a natural canvas tote so the four cats peer out over the rim when the bag is carried, gets stopped in the street by other cat people constantly
  • Pet bed front panel decorationPlace the large size on the front panel of a fleece or canvas pet bed so it wraps across the width, dead easy to hoop a flat panel before assembly
  • Sweatshirt chest banner across the frontEmbroider across the front chest of a pale grey or cream sweatshirt for a cat lover or someone who runs a pet-sitting side hustle
  • Pillowcase border on a cat-themed bed setStitch along the top edge of a pillowcase so the cats line up just below the fold, works on a white or sage pillowcase with a matching throw
  • Child's bedroom curtain tie-back accentUse the small size on a fabric curtain tie-back for a childs bedroom, the wide-eyed cats fit right into a playful room scheme
  • Cat cafe apron or staff uniform detailEmbroider on the front bib panel of an apron for cat cafe staff or a pet grooming business uniform, the lineup format works well at apron width
  • Wall hoop art framed in a horizontal frameMount the 7.5-inch in a 10-by-5 horizontal frame on natural linen as a shelf piece in a living room or reading nook for a cat person

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
