My sister stitched this onto a set of linen napkins for new years and said guests kept picking them up to look closer at the detailing. Its one of those traditional christmas designs that stitches cleaner than it looks. Tall white candle body in the centre with red candy-stripe drips down the sides, small orange teardrop flame at the top. Classic. Nine colours including two different greens for the foliage, theres a bit of variety in the thread setup.

The holly fans out on both sides with those pointed spiky edges, the two-shade green gives each leaf a visible midrib vein. Red berries cluster at the base, a big red bow with full round loops anchors the bottom, and fine pine sprigs sit behind it. Stitch count runs from 19,601 at the 3.5-in baseline up to 40,144 at just over 6 inches. Thats a solid mid-range count that works through at a comfortable pace, youll see it finish faster than youd expect.

Run a layer of cutaway stabiliser under linen or cotton before you hoop, the long directional fills on the foliage sections will pucker without it. Use a sharp 75/11 needle for the stripe detail on the candle body, the white and red alternating satin needs a clean entry. Pop your speed down slightly on the bow section, the satin density there is higher than it looks. Repeat it twice across a placemat border and youve got a full table set worth gifting.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Christmas table napkins and placematsStitched in a corner or centre, a linen napkin set looks elegant and very giftable.
  • Holiday tea towels and kitchen linensThe square composition fits a standard tea towel corner perfectly without crowding the edges.
  • Festive aprons and oven glovesSits well on an apron bib or oven glove top flap, the red bow adds a seasonal pop.
  • Christmas cushion covers in classic red and greenOn a cream or ivory cushion cover the traditional red and green colour scheme looks rich.
  • Hoop art for traditional holiday home decorFramed in a 5 or 6-inch wooden hoop this looks like a proper holiday decoration.
  • Gift bags and wine bottle bagsAt the smaller sizes it fits neatly on a gift bag front, ties the whole presentation together.
  • Christmas card holder pockets or wall pocketsA wall pocket with this on the front makes a useful and good-looking christmas card holder.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
