A round cartoon feline sitting in or tangled up with a string of christmas lights, the kind of pose that anyone who owns a cat recognises immediately. The bulbs along the wire are the best part of this design: they run in multi-colour fills, each one a separate colour in the sequence, which is what pushes the colour count to 6. White satin on the body, clean black outlines for the ears and face, green thread for the wire, and each individual bulb pulls its own colour stop. At density 500 the white satin sections have good coverage and sit flat on cotton or canvas.

Five sizes from 2.5 inches wide up to 6.5 inches, stitch counts from 4,894 at the smallest to 13,611 at the top end. The multi-colour bulb sequence means youll get more thread changes than on a simple text design, but each bulb stop is a small satin fill so the change goes fast. Pair tearaway with medium cutaway for anything other than firm stable cotton; the wide white satin torso has enough density to shift light fabric without support underneath. Avoid dark base fabrics unless you run a white topping layer, youll need that contrast for the white sections to show properly.

Cat owners who buy this dont usually want to stitch it once, Ive had people order it and come back for the next christmas with a different project in mind. A customer last december stitched the 4-inch on a cream felt stocking front and said the coloured bulbs against the light felt made it look like an illustration rather than embroidery. Stitch the large 6.5-inch across a tote panel, or use the 2.5-inch on a small fabric ornament blank. Pair those colourful glass bulbs with a charcoal or navy base fabric and the lights genuinely look like theyre glowing against the dark ground. Best on a firmly hooped cotton or denim where the directional satin sections can settle evenly without drag.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Christmas cat stocking front panelCream felt christmas stocking front at 5 inches: the white cat body reads clearly against cream felt and the multi-colour bulb sequence adds the festive detail without needing any extra embellishment
  • Holiday cat owner tote bagCat bandana at 2.5 inches on cotton with light tearaway, the compact wide design sits in the bandana triangle fold without running into the folded edge
  • Festive tree ornament fabric blankFabric tree ornament at 2.5 inches on an ornament blank with cutaway, trim to a teardrop or circle shape and add a ribbon loop for the tree
  • Cat-themed christmas cushion coverCushion cover throw pillow at 4 inches on a charcoal or navy base: the coloured bulbs read as glowing against a dark fabric in a way they dont on white
  • Seasonal gift wrap fabric tag patchHoliday tote carry bag at 6.5 inches for a cat owner, the pose is universally recognisable to anyone who has found lights on the floor in December
  • Holiday cat collar or bandana accentThick felt reusable gift tag at 2.5 inches trimmed close, the cat-and-lights scene reads as a complete illustration at that small scale

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
