Five cats all crammed together for christmas and none of them look entirely comfortable about it but here we are. The group is arranged in a rough pyramid, two cats at the top and three across the bottom, with a sixth cat outline on the far left doing its own thing with a small red heart. Every single one of them is wearing a red Santa hat stitched in dense satin fill with white snowflake patterning across the fabric. The centre cat at the very top has a taller gnome-style pointed hat with two small reindeer antlers attached to it, which is the detail that gets people, theyre always suprised by that one.
Cat colours vary across the group. Grey cats use hatching fills in dark charcoal thread, the ginger one sits in sand tones and the white cat at the far side is just open black linework with no fill at all which keeps the composition from getting too heavy. String lights weave between em with tiny purple bauble dots and red five-pointed stars float in the gaps. Seven colours total, six stops per run, and 32,890 stitches at the largest 7.5 by 7.3 inch size.
I get orders for this one all through november from people running cat cafes and rescue fundraisers. One rescue volunteer told me last christmas she stitched 40 tote bags with it to sell at an adoption event. On black cotton the red hats absolutely pop, thats the combination Id go to first. Its also surprisingly effective on grey fleece where the open-linework cat reads clearly against the background colour.
Stitch on black, charcoal or dark navy cotton or fleece. Use a cutaway stabiliser because the satin fill density on the hats needs solid backing. Avoid white fabric here, the outline-only cat just disappears into it. Skip patterned fabric too because the detail in the string lights gets lost. Five cats. Seven colours. Done.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
