Pet designs around Christmas are some of my best sellers and this Christmas dog face is the one that gets the most gift-purchase traffic in November and December. At 27464 stitches across 14 colours in a 3.19 by 3.51 inch frame, theres a lot of detail packed in, the fur shading alone uses four of the fourteen thread stops to build up from the base tan through the darker shadow tones. Density is 380, which is substantial, but the my software digitising runs the face in logical layers so registration stays tight even on a busy fabric.

Use no-show mesh on any fabric that has any give at all. The face has heavy satin passes on the nose area and eye whites, and those will lift if the stabiliser isnt holding the base flat. On stiff woven cotton or denim, a tearaway works fine. Stitch the base fur colour first, then build up through the shadow tones, then the Santa hat, then the white trim, then the face details last, thats the sequence that keeps the shiny nose sitting on top of the fur and not disappearing under it. Skip using topping on the fur sections, the directional satin reads better without it on smooth fabric.

I get a lot of messages in December from people doing last-minute Christmas gifts on sweatshirts and tote bags. One customer wrote me last christmas saying she stitched fourteen of these on personalised dog-owner mugs, she printed the mug and stitched a matching patch for a little gift set. Thats exactly the kind of use this design was made for. Run the machine at medium speed through the 14 colour changes to avoid registration drift on the shadow fur tones, and dont rush through the hat trim stops.

Pair it with a red or green thread bobbin for any visible back stitching on light fabrics. Its best against white, cream, red, or forest green holiday backgrounds, the warm fur tones get a bit muddy on dark navy or charcoal. Pick a tearaway if youre going on stiff cotton canvas, it peels clean without leaving shadow residue behind the dense fur satin.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
