Two gnomes side by side, and the hats are the whole story. Left one wears a tall patchwork hat in reds and greens with a holly sprig tucked in the band, the patches are diamond shaped and each one has a slightly different fill direction so they catch the light differently in thread. Right gnome has a darker hat in maroon and purple with a pair of orange antlers sticking up from it, like a reindeer hat made for a gnome. Its the kind of detail you notice more on the fabric than on screen.
Both gnomes have the same long braided hair in orange and yellow, the braids hang down in thick rope-like columns with the satin stitching following the twist so the individual strands read clearly. Neither has visible eyes, just round noses and white beard areas below the hat brims, which is very on-brand for this style of gnome. The bodies are little round shapes in muted tones, each holding something different, one with a wrapped gift and the other empty-handed. A dense black outline holds all 13 colour areas together cleanly.
Five sizes are in the pack, going from 3.24 inches wide at the smallest to 6.94 inches wide at the largest. At max size theres just over 71,000 stitches which is a proper commitment from your machine. Use cutaway stabiliser and hoop firmly at the larger sizes, the density is 1,373 per inch at full size so dont try running this on jersey without support. Last november a customer ordered this for matching couples christmas sweatshirts, one gnome per shirt, she sent me a photo and it looked great on a dark green base. Ive had good results on dark green, navy and burgundy cotton where the bright hat colours really stand out.
Hoop your fabric snug before you start and watch the patchwork hat sections, theres a lot of short jumps between the diamond fills and loose hooping can cause puckering. Pick your background colour carefully, this one deserves a dark ground rather than white.
