The hat swoops sideways on this one, red and white candy-cane stripes running at an angle with a small white pompom dangling off the curved tip. And sticking out either side of the hat brim: a pair of brown reindeer antlers. Thats the thing that makes this character, because its not just a gnome, its a gnome dressed as a reindeer for christmas.

Below where the antlers poke out theres a thick orange braided beard. Not the usual thin wispy white beard you see on every other gnome, this is a chunky warm amber-orange plait that fills the lower half of the design. industry tools digitised the braid texture using overlapping satin columns which gives you actual rope-braid depth in thread. Seven colours: red for the hat and body, white for the candy stripes, dark brown for the antler bases, a lighter mid-brown on the tips, sand for the nose, orange for the beard, black for outlines. The red bows at the feet each have a little white fringe detail underneath.

My niece is a kindergarten teacher in bristol and she asked me to make something for the kids christmas party tees last year. She wanted something the girls in the class would actually be excited about, not just a plain santa gnome. That design is what I came up with. She said the kids realy liked the reindeer angle and wanted to know if the gnome had a name. I told her its gonna be whatever name she stitches underneath.

Stitch on white, cream, or light grey fabric so the candy stripe hat reads clearly. The orange beard needs a pale ground too, it gets lost on warm-toned fabrics like oatmeal or natural linen. Avoid beige or tan. Tiny pull at 3.5 inches lands on pocket placement or bib, while largest hoop fits a sweatshirt yoke neatly for a tote front panel where the braid detail can breathe.

Density is friendly at 36,458 on the largest size. Use tearaway stabiliser on stable woven cotton. Cutaway on knit or jersey. Dm me if the braid section stitches heavy and I'll check the file for your specific machine type.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
