A gnome with a hat twice the height of his body standing next to a reindeer that only comes up to the gnome's shoulder. The reindeer face is all round eyes and a red nose, looking sideways at you while the gnome just stands there in complete gnome fashion, beard covering everything below the hat brim. Its a portrait-orientation design, taller than it is wide, which makes it perfect for stocking fronts and tote bag handles where horizontal designs just dont fit.

8 thread colors and 7 changes. The hat has a striped fill that alternates red and white in narrow diagonal passes, which can be fiddly on cheap machines that skip at slow sections. Run the gnome on a quality machine at normal speed and the stripes land clean. my workhorse software kept the stitch density consistent across 5 sizes so the smallest at 12,933 stitches isnt just a scaled-down mess.

Ive found folk-art gnome designs like this really sell at craft fairs in the November-December window, particularly on rustic-style bags and pillow covers. One customer who sells at a craft market told me last autumn she keeps several sizes pre-stitched on felt so buyers can pick the one that suits their project on the spot. The 4.74 inch width fits a standard 5x7 embroidery hoop with comfortable clearance.

Stitch it on a stocking front, pop it on a gift bag, or center it on a small linen pillow. Run firm cutaway behind the stocking fabric if its velvet or a heavy knit. Use tearaway on cotton. The narrow width at the smaller sizes also works well on shirt sleeves for a subtle seasonal detail that isnt screaming across the chest.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Christmas stocking front panel with a folk-art holiday feelStitch the 4.74 inch on a 12x18 stocking body front; firm cutaway holds the striped hat edges clean.
  • Gift bags and canvas tote bags for a gnome-themed ChristmasCenter the 3.51 inch wide size on a small canvas gift bag for a handmade gift presentation.
  • Shirt sleeve accent design for a subtle holiday topUse the 2.22 inch on a shirt sleeve cuff position; tearaway on a standard cotton-blend top.
  • Rustic pillow cover for farmhouse Christmas decorPosition the 4.74 inch centered on a 20-inch rustic burlap or linen pillow cover; cutaway backing.
  • Craft fair pre-stitched felt ornament or magnetStitch on stiff felt, cut out with 4mm border, add magnet or ribbon loop for a quick craft fair item.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
