Cooked up these little mushroom guys because I kept seeing kawaii christmas characters everywhere but not many using mushrooms. Theres something about the round cap shape that just works as a christmas hat base. The characters have little faces, big domed red caps with white spots, tiny santa or elf hats perched on top, the whole thing is very rounded and very cute in that deliberate way.
Nine colours go into this one, which is alot but the characters are small enough that the colour changes are quick and spaced out across the design. Density clocks in at 1,149 which is high but the sizes are narrow, ranging from 1.18 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall up to 2.53 inches wide by 7.5 inches tall. So this is a tall narrow design, kinda like a column of characters rather than a wide spread.
One customer was doing a whole christmas advent calendar project using kawaii characters and she ordered this one for the mushroom day, I thought that was really creative. I get orders for cute character designs near halloween and christmas from people making kids bedding and pyjama sets.
Use a cutaway stabiliser here, the density at 1,149 means you want solid backing especially on any knit or jersey fabric for kids clothing. Pop a topping layer on top if youre stitching onto fleece or any textured surface to keep the character details crisp. Avoid very stretchy fabric for the smallest 1.18 inch size since the tight detail stitching can buckle.
