Theres something about a pug in a Santa hat that just works. The face is all wrinkles and wide dark eyes, rendered in that textured sketch-fill style where visible stitch direction makes the fawn coat look genuinely fluffy rather than flat. The red hat sits a bit lopsided, the scarf has proper striped satin detail with fringe ends at the collar. Seven colors total, and the powder blue hatband is a small touch that stops it looking like every other holiday dog design out there. One customer ordered this on 8 different linen pouches last december as gifts for their whole pug-obsessed group chat, which tells you everything about the market for it.

Five sizes from 3.51 x 2.99 inches up to 7.51 x 6.4 inches. Lay fusible mesh behind any stretchy fabric before you hoop so those wrinkle outlines stitch sharp. Run the embroidery on a 90/14 sharp instead of a standard needle on woven tote canvas to keep the dark grey hatching lines crisp. 47 trims across the color sequence, my standard software digitisation, 15,869 stitches at the small end climbing to 41,614 at 7.51 inches. Stitch the small on a pocket, the large on a tote front.

Pug owners are a loyal bunch and breed-specific Christmas items move fast at craft fairs. Pick the 3.51 size for ornament backing or felt patch blanks. Stick to mid cutaway on sweatshirt fabric and youll get clean density on the texture fill sections throughout. Ive watched this one outsell every other dog design at every seasonal market Ive seen it at. The textured render is whats different here, and once someones seen it theyre not looking at flat-fill versions anymore. Ping me if youre unsure which thread works best on a specific background.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Personalised Christmas gifts for pug ownersPug owners are a loyal bunch. Stitch this on a tea towel, a tote, or a mug mat and it sells itself as a breed gift.
  • Holiday tote bags and canvas pouchesThe portrait shape fits neatly on a standard tote front panel at the 5.51 or 6.4 inch size.
  • Christmas sweatshirts and hoodiesHoop polymesh underneath knit sweatshirt fabric to keep the wrinkle detail from distorting on the soft fill areas.
  • Breed-specific ornament backingsAt the smaller 3.51 size, the design fits well on a felt ornament panel backed with a second layer for stability.
  • Vet clinic and pet shop seasonal decor itemsVet waiting rooms and groomers often order holiday-themed items in small batches. Fast run time at 3 to 4 inch sizing.
  • Kids' Christmas pajama pocketsThe compact 3.51 x 2.99 inch size sits perfectly on a chest pocket without overwhelming the garment.

Behind every stitch

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
