Mocked up this one last year and customers keep asking for it every winter. Its a reindeer in full side-profile silhouette, chocolate brown fill, solid and clean, with a lil string of fairy lights looped right across the antler tines. The lights are the fun part: 4 colours, red and orange and yellow and green bulbs, each one a lil satin oval, dangling off a cream wire satin line. Nothing fussy, just enough colour to make it read festive without going full Christmas chaos.
industry tools handled the build, 4 colour stops total, five sizes from 2.72 inches wide up to 5.84 inches, and the stitch range is 8,216 to 18,288 so its a genuinely quick stitch on any home machine. The silhouette body runs underlay first and then a single-pass fill at low density, which keeps the chocolate colour flat and even across the whole deer shape. Youre not gonna get puckering with this one as long as the stabiliser is decent.
Cream cotton pillow fabric is what I keep recommending, the contrast between the dark silhouette and the light background is exactly what makes those little light bulbs readable from across a room. But Ive also seen this stitched on navy felt and honestly it looked brilliant, really clean edge where the silhouette sits. The 5 sizes give you alot of flexibility: smallest fits a mug wrap or a gift tag topper, largest works on a cushion or a Christmas tote. A customer grabbed the 5.84-inch file and ran it on a linen tea towel, came out beautiful, she said the bulb colours stood out better than she expected from a 4-colour design.
Pick the size based on your hoop and your fabric weight. Skip the topping on felt, it doesnt need it. Run a light cutaway stabiliser under woven fabric and the silhouette stays crisp at the edges. Use the smallest file on kraft paper-backed iron-on if you want to make quick gift patches this season.
