This lil snake is fully committed to christmas. The body is coiled on a round wooden base, lime green scales with darker directional hatching stitched across em to give texture, and the underside flips to a sandy cream. On top of its little head sits a full red Santa hat with a fluffy white pompom, and a pair of oversized round glasses sit across the snout in bright red satin. Its got big wide cartoon eyes and a tiny forked tongue poking out. The snake is clearly delighted about the whole situation.

Behind it theres a full christmas tree in forest green with dense tatami fill and individual branch tips. The tree has white string lights running across it, three red baubles hanging on satin fill circles, and right at the top a gold star with a cross-hatch satin surface. The whole scene fits inside the hoop tightly on the smallest four-inch size and opens right up at 7.5 inches where every detail reads clearly.

I made this one last october after a buyer asked me if I had anything for reptile owners who do christmas gifts. Her partner keeps corn snakes and she wanted a hoodie for him that wasnt just a generic christmas jumper. She stitched the 6.5-inch on a grey fleece hoodie and sent the photo. Twelve colours total across the snake, tree and star, nine sizes worth of machine stops, but industry tools kept it clean.

Stitch on dark fabric for max contrast, charcoal, navy or forest green cotton and fleece all work great. Avoid pale fabric because the lime green and sand tones lose punch against white or cream. Use a cutaway stabiliser underneath, the stitch density tops 58,000 on the biggest size and you want that backing for stability. Hoop the fleece with a layer of water-soluble topping if the surface is loopy.
