Classic is the right word for this one. Seven bulbs on a gently curving black cord, the arc is a little deeper and more relaxed than the tighter borders Ive digitised, which gives it that proper hanging garland look rather than a stiff stripe. Bulb colours go green, blue, yellow, red, purple, orange spread across the strand, gonna be honest its a really satisfying colour sequence when it stitches out. Each bulb is a solid satin fill sitting in a tight black socket cap. The cord is a clean satin column that holds its shape well on all but the stretchiest knits.

Five sizes here, going from a 2.51 inch version at 1,526 stitches up to a 6.51 inch wide garland at 4,512 stitches. The height stays narrow, between 0.81 and 2.1 inches, so all 5 sizes work as trim borders without taking over the design space. Seven colour changes total, your machine stops at each one. A customer this christmas used the 6.51 inch version on a cotton quilted holiday wall hanging and said the bulb satin looked realy polished against the white background fabric. On quilted cotton I'd recommend a light tearaway stabiliser rather than cutaway since the quilt batting gives you extra support naturally.

Reach out if you need a different size or want to know which stabiliser works best for your specific fabric.

Hoop your fabric with a cutaway stabiliser for garments and anything that gets washed regularly. The satin bulb fills need that support to stay flat after multiple cycles through the washing machine. Stick to mid-weight cutaway for lighter cotton or linen, go firm for stretchy jersey or knit fabrics. Pop a layer of topping film over terry cloth or any looped texture or the stitches sink into the loops and lose that clean edge.

Stitch on white, cream, oatmeal, or light grey for the best colour pop. All 7 bulb colours read well on pale backgrounds. Navy and dark green can work but you lose the blue and purple bulbs a bit in low light.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Christmas quilt borders and holiday wall hangingsStitch the 6.51 inch version along quilt block seams or as a border strip for Christmas wall hangings.
  • Holiday shirt hems and sleeve cuff accentsRun the 2.51 inch size along shirt sleeve cuffs for a subtle Christmas detail that peeks out under a jacket.
  • Christmas kitchen towel lower edge trimPlace it along the bottom edge of white cotton kitchen towels, the narrow height fits without crowding.
  • Festive linen napkin corner decorationStitch one in each corner of a linen napkin on 45 degree diagonal for a festive holiday table set.
  • Holiday pet bandana and dog collar kerchiefThe 2.51 inch version fits across the width of a standard dog bandana with room to spare at the edges.
  • Stocking tops and mantle decoration accentsUse the 4 inch size along stocking tops, the garland arc mirrors the natural shape of a hung stocking.
  • Christmas tote bag and canvas gift bag trimRepeat across the base of a canvas tote bag front panel for quick and colourful holiday gift packaging.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
