Mocked up this one because I really wanted a penguin design that wasnt just the bird on a white background. The idea was a paint-bomb behind a classic king penguin, totally upright posture, that neat black-and-white silhouette you recognise instantly, and then 18 colours of loose splashy fills radiating out behind it like a watercolour explosion. Orange and red on one side, pink and blush in the middle, medium blue and deep navy and lavender sweeping the other way. The penguin itself is gonna stay matte and clean while all the chaos happens behind it.

my software routed the splash zones to minimise bleed across 17 colour changes, every zone needed its own fill pass to get the soft irregular edges right without one colour bleeding into the next. The density runs at 1139, lighter than a solid-fill design, so the splash areas have that open airy feel instead of sitting heavy on the fabric. The penguin body uses a satin outline pass over the fill to keep the silhouette edges sharp.

Pick a pastel blue or white onesie for the cleanest result, the light ground is what makes all 18 colours show up properly. Stitch it on cotton canvas tote bags aswell, Ive tested aqua and it looks great. Back with medium cutaway on any knit fabric because those radial splash stitches will pull without solid backing. Skip tearaway on stretch knits entirely. Add a water-soluble topping on terry cloth or fleece to stop the splash detail sinking into the pile.

Last week a customer recieved her order and wrote to say shed already stitched the 4.76-inch version onto a matching set of 4 tote bags for a birthday party. Thats kinda the use case I had in mind the whole time.

Send me a note through the shop if you want to talk about a custom splash colourway.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
