Mocked up this little owl for nursery projects and kids gear, its the kind of design that stops people mid-scroll. The feather crown is what makes it, those long wispy plumes radiate out from the top of the head in full rainbow order, pink next to lime green next to orange, eleven colour stops in total and each one is its own distinct feather zone. The eyes are massive relative to the body, round and teal-blue with a white centre highlight, which gives the whole thing that wide-awake baby animal expression people go for on kids items.

Eleven colours and 49 trims means your machine needs to be trimming reliably on this one, the thread path jumps around alot between the feather sections. The digitising runs each feather in a directional satin that follows the plume angle, so the embroidery has actual dimension to it, the feathers catch a slight shimmer depending on how the light hits them. Smallest size is 2.5 inches wide at 12,665 stitches, largest is 5.5 inches at 30,335, its a good range for anything from a onesie chest to a backpack panel.

Hoop a nursery onesie with a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser and a water-soluble topping, that combo keeps the feather tips sharp on knit. Pair lilac, sage and butter yellow threads on white or cream fabric, they pull the softer tones out of the rainbow and keep it nursery-appropriate rather than carnival-loud. Skip dark navy backgrounds if you want the white chest highlight to read properly. One customer asked if they could send me a photo after stitching, and I recieved the most adorable image of it on a pale pink sleepsuit last month, the teal eyes really popped.

Add it to a backpack panel or frame it in a hoop and it works for a nursery wall aswell. Email me if you need the colour sequence or want to swap the palette, Im happy to help.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Baby onesies and sleepsuits for gender-neutral nurseriesUse the 3-inch size on a 0-3 month onesie chest with water-soluble topping over the knit to keep feather tips crisp.
  • Kids backpacks and school bag front panelsStitch the 4-inch build placed on a canvas backpack front panel, cutaway backing holds the stitch density well.
  • Nursery wall art hoops in rainbow colour schemesFrame the chest 3-in in a 6-inch painted wood hoop with white backing fabric for nursery wall display.
  • Toddler sweatshirts and hooded topsPlace a 4-inch centre on the back yoke of a toddler hoodie, the rainbow feathers show over the hood seam.
  • Baby shower gift items and personalised bibsAdd the small 2.5-inch size to a cotton bib centre, it fits within the bib panel without crowding the edge.
  • Childrens bedroom cushion coversUse the largest 5.5 in build for pre-cut 16x16 cotton panel before assembly into a cushion cover.
  • Craft fair kids embroidery samples and display piecesStitch multiple colourways on display cards for craft fair booths, the 2.5-inch version fits credit-card sized mounts.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
