This little bird has so much going on and somehow it all works. Vibrant layered feathers in multiple bright colours, oversized expressive eyes that give the whole thing a cartoon personality, and a composition thats just the right amount of busy. The feather colouring has that tropical bird quality where each section is a different hue, blues and greens and pops of warm colour depending on your thread selection. Its a genuinely happy design, the kind of thing that makes people smile when they see it on a finished project.
9 sizes from 3.51 in to 7.50 in wide, stitch counts go from 27,451 at the smallest to 70,255 at the largest. The vibrant multi-color feather layers drive that count up, so plan for 5 to 7 thread changes depending on your colour choices. Cutaway stabiliser on any knit or stretch base, tearaway on firm wovens. Density is medium-rich to keep the feather colours saturated and separated. Hoop firmly, the eye detail in particular needs clean registration so any hoop looseness will show in the final piece.
Kidswear is where this really belongs. A customer had the medium size done on the front of a kids jean jacket and it came out looking like something from a boutique childrenswear line, the bright thread colours against the denim was suprisingly striking. Canvas patches work great too if you want something portable across projects. Nursery wall hoops are another strong use at the larger sizes, and the design works well on a tote panel for a parent or teacher who wants something fun without being childish about it.
