The hummingbird is mid-hover, bill pointing left toward two large open pink flowers. Wings are spread wide and the feathers are stitched in tight satin bands that capture the shimmer you see on real hummingbird plumage. The body runs lime-green down the chest and belly, the throat is a deep hot pink fading into magenta at the edges, and the longer wing feathers shift into a purple-violet I havent seen on many bird designs. Teal turquoise comes in on the tail and along some of the wing tips.

What makes this one different from a standard bird design is the background treatment. Orange paint-splash shapes sit behind the left flower, teal ink drops scatter around the composition, and there are lime green leaf sprigs that look like a quick brushstroke rather than a stitched botanical element. Its a deliberate mixed-media feel, like the bird is flying out of a painted canvas. Twelve colours in total and every one is doing something distinct.

Density is moderate at 709 per square inch and the large 7.3 by 8.5 inch version runs to 44,010 stitches, so it stitches out in a solid session. Eight sizes from 3.86 by 4.5 up to 7.3 by 8.5. Use a medium-weight cut-away stabiliser and float a topping on any textured fabric so the fine feather satin bands dont sink into the weave. Stitch slowly on the wing sections where the colour shifts from pink to purple. Skip dark backgrounds on this one, the teal and lime-green need a light or mid-tone ground to read properly. The smaller versions work on garment sleeves and tote pockets. Medium sizes suit the chest or back of a shirt. Big sizes do well centred on a cushion or stretched in a wall hoop.

People who buy this usually say they wanted something that didnt look like it came from a catalogue. One person messaged me last autumn after stitching the five-inch on a white linen tote and said three people at a market stopped to ask if it was hand-painted. That honestly made my day and its one of those bits of feedback you dont forget. Pop it on a pale blue or cream background and the twelve colours do all the work. Get in touch if you want help matching thread brands for any of the colours.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • White linen tote bag with tropical themeCentre the medium size on a white linen tote and the splash elements almost look like a printed textile
  • Light coloured shirt or blouse left chest panelPlace the 4-inch on the left chest of a pale sky blue or white blouse for a tropical spring wardrobe piece
  • Cushion cover for a tropical or bohemian living roomUse the large version on a white or ivory cushion for a sitting room that leans into tropical or jungle botanicals
  • hoop-mounted display for a gallery wallStitch the large size on cotton muslin and stretch over a round 10-inch hoop as a wall piece above a reading chair
  • Silk scarf or lightweight wrap embroideryThe medium size on a lightweight cotton or silk-blend scarf gives it a hand-painted look that feels like a designer piece
  • Denim jacket sleeve accentPlace the 4-inch on the upper sleeve of a dark denim jacket where the teal and pink read brightly against the indigo
  • Kids bedroom wall panel with bird and flower themeUse the small size on a fabric panel alongside other bird designs for a nature-themed kids room feature wall
  • Canvas pouch or makeup bag for a giftStitch on a zippered canvas pouch for a birthday gift that feels considered and slightly unusual

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
