This colorful butterfly heart packs dozens of open line-art butterflies into a heart silhouette - 3 thread colours, coral red, sky blue and black, all outline style with no solid fill inside each butterfly. The size mix means some butterflies are bigger and some are tiny, which gives it that scattered natural look instead of a rigid grid.

Stitch count goes from 20,094 at the 3-in size reaching 32,003 at the largest, and the design runs 5.37 to 8.95 inches wide across 5 sizes. Thats a fair bit of stitching but the density is moderate at 357 since most of the butterflies are open outline rather than dense satin fill. This digitising style is forgiving - tension variation on the outline passes doesnt ruin it the way it would on a solid fill section.

A customer pinged me last valentines saying she stitched the large size on a red cotton tote and the blue butterflies absolutely popped against the red fabric. I hadnt actually thought of doing that - I always assumed white or cream backgrounds - but she was right, it looked brilliant. On light fabrics the three colours all read clearly. Pop it on a cutaway stabiliser, the design has a lota directional runs so you want it hooped flat and stable.

Use a sharp 75/11 needle on woven fabric, go up to 80/12 on heavier canvas. Trim the jump threads as you go because with this many individual butterfly outlines theres gonna be a few. Any issues just ping me.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Valentine's Day tote bags and gift packagingThe heart shape reads clearly on plain canvas tote bags; try stitching in the centre front for a bold valentine gift bag.
  • Women's shirts and sweatshirts for FebruaryLarge enough at 8.95 inches to anchor the front of an adult sweatshirt without looking small.
  • Hoop art and framed love-themed wall decorMount the 8-inch size in a round hoop for a finished wall piece - three thread colours means minimal swaps.
  • Cushion covers and throw pillow accentsWorks well on white or cream cotton cushion covers where all three butterfly colours stay distinct.
  • Bridal shower or anniversary gift bagsStitch on small drawstring bags for bridal shower favours; the butterfly-heart combo reads romantic without being too literal.
  • Girls bedroom decor and personalised beddingGreat for kids room decor - line-art style looks hand-drawn and less commercial than solid fill designs.
  • Romantic gift wrapping pouches and favour bagsSmall sizes fit neatly on organza pouches for valentine or anniversary gift wrapping.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
