This is a proper monarch, wings fully open and symmetrical, the kind you see pinned in a natural history display but stitched in thread. The upper wings are that warm burnt orange that monarchs are known for, divided by thick black vein lines, then a scalloped teal-aqua border runs all the way around the outer edges with small open spots in it. The body down the middle is solid black, very upright. Its a realy satisfying design to watch stitch out because the colours stack in a logical order and the wing cells fill in one by one.

industry software mapped the wing panel fills cleanly so each orange cell stitches independently with its own underlay before the vein outlines come over the top in black. That sequencing is what keeps the veins sharp and stops the orange from bleeding under the outlines. Six colours total: black for veins and body, a warm orange-red for the upper cells, a lighter orange for the lower panels, aqua for the wing border accents, a teal-green for the deeper border sections, and a small yellow accent at the wing tips. 5 colour changes, 70 trims, 849 spi delivers full coverage that's manageable on mid-weight fabrics.

Stitch range is 16,407 at 3.3 inches wide up to 44,996 at 7 inches, so the complexity really kinda just scales up as you go bigger. Run the 5-in run on a spring weight cotton tote and the orange fills look vivid and clean. Use cutaway stabiliser if youre going on any stretchy or knit base, tearaway works fine on woven cottons and linens. Add a topping film on towelling or fleece so the orange threads stand proud of the loops.

One customer asked me last spring about digitising a similar butterfly and I sent them this file, they stitched it on a white linen tea towel with a 5-inch hoop and it looked genuinely suprised them with how bright the orange came out on natural linen. Pair it with a small leaf or branch design to the left and you have a full botanical panel going.

Five sizes starting at 3.3 by 3.5 up to 7.07 by 7.5 inches. Great for tote bags, tea towels, cushion panels, and childrens room wall hoops. Send a chat if you need a custom size and Ill see what I can work out.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Nature-themed tote bag or canvas shopper front panelThe 5-in tote version lands on a tote front panel well, orange and teal read brightly on natural cotton or cream canvas
  • Childrens room embroidered wall hoop in a botanical setThe 3.3-inch size fits in a cluster of 3 hoops for a nursery botanical gallery wall
  • Spring or summer tea towel accent designUse the 4-in build on flour sack cotton tea towels with tearaway stabiliser for clean results
  • Cushion cover panel for a nature or garden themed roomThe 7-inch size fills a standard 8-inch cushion panel beautifully with room for a border
  • Denim jacket sleeve or back yoke nature patchOn denim the black vein lines stand out sharply, use cutaway stabiliser for best edge results
  • Gift bag embroidery for spring birthdays or garden partiesThe small 3.3-inch size works well repeated twice on opposite sides of a kraft gift bag face
  • Botanical embroidery sampler alongside florals and leavesPairs well with floral or leaf outline designs in a nature-themed hoop sampler frame

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
