Its a split border, which is the thing that makes this useful as a functional design and not just decorative. Top half: four pencils standing eraser-end up in a neat row, all lined up on a thin ruled baseline. The lower section mirrors that with the tip ends pointing downward in the same row arrangement, another ruled line beneath them. The gap in the middle is blank, which is the whole point, thats where a name or word goes. So this works as a name frame, a label border, a personalised patch, all of that.
Six colours, all bright and clean. Magenta-pink on the eraser caps, teal on the ferrule bands, yellow pencil bodies, and that orange-tan wood tip section you see on every classic school pencil. Black outlines throughout with white highlight dots on the erasers to give them a slightly glossy feel. Colour changes are 5, stitch count runs from 13k at the small hoop to about 40k at the largest, so its properly detailed at scale.
One customer ran a batch of the 4-inch on iron-on backing for a whole classrooms worth of pencil case labels last August and said the teal ferrule came out especially crisp on white cotton twill.
White or natural fabric is where this reads best. The six colours need a neutral background or the brightness clashes. Avoid dark fabrics. Medium cutaway stabiliser and standard embroidery needle, nothing unusual required. Leave the centre gap empty for personalisation or stitch a name in there with a matching satin thread after the main design is done.
Five sizes from about 3 inches wide up to nearly 6. All sizes use the same 6-colour sequence. Email me a chat if the sizing doesnt match your hoop and Ill check what fits your project. Skip dark fabric for the colour pop. Pop a firm cutaway behind stretch knits.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Personalised pencil cases with name borderUse the open centre gap as a name frame on a kids pencil case, stitch the border first then add the name in satin stitch
- Teacher tote bags and classroom giftsThe bright primary palette matches perfectly on a canvas teacher tote as a end-of-year gift that doesnt look generic
- Back-to-school iron-on patchesWorks as an iron-on patch on a plain school backpack for a pop of colour that holds up through the wash
- Kids fabric lunchboxes and pouchesStitch on a small fabric lunchbox or snack pouch for a matching back-to-school set with personalised initials in the gap
- Classroom cushions and reading pillowsThe split border format lends itself to a reading pillow where you can add the childs name between the two pencil rows
- Fabric book covers for school booksEmbroider on fabric book covers for exercise books to replace the boring paper slip-on kind
- First day of school keepsake itemsFrame the smallest size and stitch the year in the centre gap for a first day of school keepsake piece

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
